Rights and Ethics are usually flip sides of the same coin, and behind every ‘patient right’ is one or more ethical principle from which that right is derived, according to the National Institutes of Health or NIH. Establishing clearly defined patient or consumer rights helps standardize care and service provided by all agency staff, which enables all patients or clients to have uniform expectations.
